log bagging

i thought it time to have a go at a log bagger.
I used a bit of old flexable plastic that was nailed to a pallet, and some left over steel from a set of gates.
Here's a few pic of my first attempt ..

Load up the logs


slide on the bag


tip it up


It needs a bit more tinkering and a bracket to attach it to the splitter.

That log splitter is cool. Had a brief scary vision and thought mind yer hand!
Wonder if you could modify an old farm binder to automatically fill and change bags for you. There's a challenge

Nice bit of kit..I like the way it tilts up, fills the bag and leaves it on the floor.

Will you fill them straight from the splitter.

Does it automatically tilt when there's a bag full on it?

Could you not have the pivot point a little further up the scoop so that it is easier to tip up? Not so far that it tips itself though.

Sid, i needed the pivot at that point so as when it's tipped up there was enough height for the bag to slide off. It's easier to tip than it looks.

It won't auto tip Wyn, i think that this is something that i have to keep simple lol

I had a go with it for an hour this morning, but it's still a deadly slow operation.
Ideally it would be better with one splitting and another bagging. I split and bagged 20 of the 25kg nets in the hour (same time it takes to fill 2 builders bags) though i probably could do more with a bit more practice now i know why the nets you see in the petrol stations are so pricey, labour !!!!

Shape is somewhat reminiscent of the scoop old Mrs Goodwin used to use in her sweetshop nice work, splitter is great BTW.

As a kid my dad had me out digging peat or cutting wood for the winter on my school holidays, it's hard to kick old habits..lol

Great idea ghound should help speed up the process

I must have my thinking cap on this evening just wondering what you thought of putting the scope on the side of the log splitter with a ram to push the logs into the scope it would save you walking up two the other end all the time have you enough of height to be able to fill the scope over the side rather than from the back if you get my drift as you could always put the sheet of tin on the scope to stop the blocks from falling under it when it's tilted up
good to see the log splitter is working well I hope to make one letter on this year

That log splitter logs good but very dangerous. How do you turn it on and off?

Bag filler looks cool

How much do you get per bag?

It runs off the hammer lines of the mini digger. Quite safe i thought lol
You get around £3.5 / £4 a bag, or sell them all day long to the filling stations for £2.50
The fastest way i find is to use the builders bags, this splitter will fill 2ph with ease.

Work was rained off today, so i thought i would have a go making one of them saw horses used for holding the small awkward bits.
The basics are near right, and i was surprised by just how stable it was.

This is my next project splitter............em ghound, metal horse is ok, but a lot quicker with the style you have knocked up!!
