The amount of junk left behind from production was always surprising to me

Always irritating when you find a handful of other bits before the thing you dropped.

Following an incident at a nuclear power station where the end of a cable tie couldn’t be accounted for resulting in a couple of days strip down and rebuild to find it, the only cable ties now allowed to be used are brightly coloured and slightly radioactive. Not radioactive enough or of a wavelength that will harm you,but enough that you can scan for them in the event of the tails not adding up with the number used…
