Locking wheel nuts (again)

Right guys, anyone got any suggestions? The story goes like this, the wheel has a flat tyre on it, my pal would like to change it. He is currently in South Africa and comes over on the 14th, the car is in Glasgow, I am in Manchester, he has no welding gear. The locking wheel nut (stud) he has no key for needs to come off. What's the best way to go about it? @premmington ? anybody?


Oh, it's a Toyota Avensis if that has any bearing on anything.

Chisel the outer ring off and belt an old socket over what’s left. I’ve done a few like this very successfully such that I keep old sockets for this very job.

Cant you get a mobile tyre guy in to get wheel off and repair the puncture at the same time?

Buy a can of repair spray and drive it to a tyre shop.

I think they're called "Trilock" and you can get a new key and or a set of nuts with a key which may be the easiest? Here for example.

As per @Welderpaul or if you have one of the spiral rounded off bolt remover socket thingys.
Then throw them all away and replace with boggo standard nuts

Alternatively, stick a worm in it (assuming there's a hole) and a footpump

I weld the sleeve on and knock a extractor socket over these.

But you can buy "oval" wheel nut removal sockets that deform the outer ring.


But that is gonna be murder tight - rusty end of life car. You gonna need heat from welder to beat that I think.

I’d split the outer ring and batter a socket on
Your a day late though, my youngest was in Glasgow for three days with a van full of useful tools.

Just get one of these and a battery rattle gun and it'll be off in 5 seconds.


They never fail. I've removed all sorts of locking nuts with them. Even the Mcgarb type that have the anti theft spinning collar.
It whips them straight off

+1 for the Irwin solution from Fazerruss, Got a well and truely mullered sump plug off a SAAB I bought, the only thing I found was the need to be completely square onto the offending nut.
