Local (Leith, Edinburgh) BOC branch closing down

Think I spotted someone else talking about some other BOC branches closing down but can't find the thread.

Anyways, got home today to find a letter from them saying the Leith branch is closing on August 1st. Nearest branch is now Bilston, which isn't the end of the world for me as I'm only swapping every ~9 months or so.

BOC in trouble? Other people experiencing the same in other parts of the UK?

think im lucky in the fact i use an agent rather than a boc branch, come to think of it im not entirely sure where my local branch is....

it would appear scots branch in leith is the closest to me...

Seventeen branches apparently to be closed this year, the one here is supposedly safe, I hope so because the nearest agents are miles away.

The depot in Carlisle closed a couple of months ago, fortunately they've moved in with one of the motor factors in Carlisle so I can still get gas.

Can't say I'm surprised it closed, since November last year I was in 3 times for a new bottle and apart from the guy behind the counter I never saw anyone else.

my agent is IWS in dunfermline, dunno how close that is from scots exact location, they always have plenty of Y bottles in stock.

That's a thought - hell of a lot easier to get to Dunfermline than Bilston Glen.

That's the one - knew I'd seen it somewhere, but being buried in the 50 page volkzone thread would explain why I couldn't find it

Is it closing? The one in Goole closed a longtime ago, in that BOC sold the land and buildings to the then manager who then opened it back up, as an agent.

Although I'm not so sure he would do the same now.

It makes sense, I have three agents and a depot within 40 mins plus an agent who just collects from the boc depot and delivers.

To save the branches they should get out selling gear to the customers but then they are treading on agents toes a bit then.

My local BOC branch closed about 20 years ago ! Local agent is a roofing merchant , with a tiny gas bottle compound ,no use what's so ever if you Need something simple like a bottle key
