No surprise on an 18 year old car. I went looking for the tyre inflator pump and tool kit and came across this below the compartment liner.
Crash structure and packing pieces out.
Quite a bit of crud in there, must be coming up thought the drain hole that should have a "duck bill" bung in it.
After an hour of scraping and sanding. No serious damage.
I'll spray it with epoxy tomorrow.
After a bit of research, others say the water gets in there due to blocked drain holes in the front slam panel area behind the bumper. The drains are covered up by too much seam sealer being applied from the factory, so will need to take off the bumper to investigate.
