Linisher recommendation?

Hi guys, I have a Multico combined 9" disc and 6" belt linisher. Its probably the biggest pile of crap in my workshop. Its all rattly / lightweight sheetmetal.

I have recently been discovering how useful it would be if it worked, so I'd like to get a real one. It is 3/4 HP (0.55kW), but it stops when I touch anything on to it to grind.

Does anyone have lying around, or can anyone recommend, a decent high quality replacement. I'm not allergic to rebuilding old rust buckets, and I'll certainly need to go pre-owned.

I'm a fan of both the belt and the disc (in principle!), but I know I may not get them both in one machine.

So what should I look for? What kind of horsepower starts being useful?

P.S. anyone want to buy a really really good disc and belt linisher. Solidly built, and works great!

Same size belt & disc as mine, but twice the power, looks like a good start. I wonder how solid the table etc is. Weighs more than twice as much too, which is also good.

Bit above my budget to be honest, let us know how you get on with it.

More or less. That one has more power and looks to have a bit more structure, possibly a better table (but still rattly ali) and a better stand, but the basic setup is the same.

They are the same as SIP resell. I have one, intended for woodwork, but it handles metal find. Picked mine up off you know where 6 months old for 50quid

Brightspark - facilities: yes, inclination: no.

Too many tool projects...

Dr - you're right, they are for wood really - I'm sure mine would be fine for that. I'm looking for something a bit more industrial that'll last me a long time. I guess 2.5 HP or more.

Theres an RJH on ebay now[£135]. A mate has a larger looking RJH linisher, it's 3hp or 4hp, but even with that motor if you get a big chunk of ali and push it into the belt you can slow it. It's a great bit of kit and been in everyday use since he got it, can't understand people chucking gear like that. We pulled it out of a skip 20 years ago, I got an anvil he got the linisher, I think I should have had the linisher;-)

Well, just to close this one down, I scored a couple of linishers for a total expense of £162. An RJH horizontal jobber, and an unknown make bandfacer type vertical floor standing one with a shed load of spare belts and a spare wheel. Looks to have a 3 or 4 horsepower motor, and it makes me smile. Both replacements were just down the road, too.

If anyone wants the old one, let me know (can see in background of 1st pic). No belts with it, but it has a spare disc (ooh!). I haven't sold it very well on this thread, but I'm sure its fine for hobby / domestic / light industrial use. (Will put in the 'For Sale' section along with a couple of other tools).

Had a bit of good luck solving this one. To finish off I might make myself a nice big disc sander out of a big motor and an ali backing disc with a fabricated table. Seems that Baileigh one would be pretty easy to replicate (nicer to buy, but I can't stretch to it..).
