I have just bought one of these and would be interested to hear other people's opinions it as a welder. Is it reliable? Is it easy to use? Plus anything else really.
A key question - what is the maximum thickness you'd weld with this machine?
my uncle has a 140s that he used for stick welding, excellent machine very reliable, we have used it all day at maximum amps and never had any problems, it will burn a 4mm rod no problem i would be content welding 12mm with it.
i have just purchased my own lincoln 145s which i intend to use for both stick ang tig, have only used it once for stick and had no problems.
Hi Dave
Thanks for the reply, i picked up some gas and rods from boc on thursday . so i could have a play with the tig side, and i am impressed with the welder i have even tried welding some 6mm cds tube that i veed out, it did a lovely root run on tig and then i finished it off with the arc. very happy with it, just wish i could remember to turn the gas on at the torch every time! grinding tungstens are not my favorite hobby. Martin
no problem. always happy 2 help, im a new comer 2 tig welding but i know the basics lol never done it in my life yet and have just got all i need for it so wait and see how i get on lol
RE Dave
i am new to tig myself but have been welding arc for 30years and mig for about 20years,
i have found it is the same as most things if you get your prep right including joint fit, shielding gas, and choice of tungstens & cup (most of which are on the miller website as a guide.
the rest is a steady hand practice and keep everything clean. if you burn the point on the tungsten grind it. dont try and finish the weld first it makes all the difference hope that helps Moffat
