Limescale

We have a big problem with the stuff,wife wants to clean the bathroom taps,is it safe to use limescale removal,I assume they’re chrome plated brass?

Fit a water softener on all but your drinking water.

Read the instructions on the limescale remover carefully. If it says don't apply on chrome plated items, then don't!! Ask me how I know. The nickel plating underneath can look a bit like low carat gold for a while, but it's not a good look!

I use the screwfix descale stuff on our taps, tiles, sinks and bath on a regular basis with no problems, brings them up a treat.

White vinegar and a plastic food bag leave in on over night no issues

again white wine vinegar....
used for the kettle.....boil up a small amount of water and drop in a spalsh of the ving...
also used it on the heating tubes on my solar water heating unit.....
15 years old and not working so good.....
filled the tubes and flushed em every couple of days......amazing results....
wife swears by itnow.....we pay around €2,50 for a gallon....

yep! but that tastes great i reuse that for salad dressings ect and just use cheap spirit vinegar for cleanning

On taps I use a very rounded flat blade screwdriver that gets used for anything and everything except putting screws in, if you can see an edge of the limescale you will usually find it flicks off chrome relatively easily

You don't want edges or corners on the screwdriver as they may scratch but my old worn one manages not to hurt the chrome

If anything is left behind then use cillit bang to do a final clean but it doesn't really help much with thicker limescale

Don't know. I thought if you had BP issues then "sodium" is best avoided.

I believe the latest thinking is you don't need to have drinking water supplied off the mains. I spoke to the MD of Wrekin Softeners and he confirmed this. Years ago it was different (what wasn't??) and any sodium was very bad for heart condiitons.
