But while researching it I came across a page I linked to that seemed to pour scorn on its claims. If you google it you will find the link anyway it's fairly obvious.....but I wondered who was really telling the truth..

Well, I was never going to guess that, and I work in the software industry...
Am I correct in thinking that LIMA as in MeetLIMA is basically a USB style network hard drive (NAS) that accesses an outside server to serve your private data to where ever you access it from a smart phone or other computer, a bit like skype that bypasses your router and firewall etc., The link that was removed seemed to be to a web site that seemed to be very anti lima, before the post was removed I did have a look!
I would suggest if anyone was tech-savvy and used a service from any of the DNS routing providers one could do this without any special apps. But then again I am not tech-savvy?

This isn't anything particularly new but they have one or two nice technical wrinkles but there are other aspects to be considered
1. I believe you would need a router with usb connectivity
2. the majority of customers with basic broadband connections have a maximum upload speed of around 40Kb which might take a while to sync files and max out your local connection whilst it does so. The more devices you have connected through other internet routes sharing the load would help

It was not so much what it was and what it does it was more the hatred towards the whole device and funding source from the original site I linked to. .....it just intrigued me as to why.

He actually closed the thread as it did not make a lot of sense without the link. Then he opened it again so I put a different link up without the swearing. But it still did not really make much sense. The link I found while researching the LIMA boxes and it seems to be from someone who does not like it and does not like their funding method. I am pretty certain it not a parady or satire.
I thought the website I linked to was rather strange hense why I asked the original question.

No mate you were not wrong. Your info was gratefully taken on board. I pay for 1 gig of dropbox and read up on it to see if there was a saving to be made. One issue I have is I go away for 2 months at a time and need internet while I am in the middle of a Field. Dropbox and LIMA is not my best option BUT if I can ensure I take videos and large files I might need I should be fine.damn, I hate it when I get the stick and run in the wrong direction, please can we put it down to me being short sighted
It was the level of antogonism from the site that made me question if it really was a great piece of equipment and they were scared of it!
I've been thinking of something like this for a while, but I wouldn't buy something that doesn't have a monthly cost tbh, because it costs money to manage data, so if there's no money apart from the initial purchase cost, I question how long the service would be around.
I'm thinking of rolling my own with an Amazon instance or maybe Google compute engine, but my use case may be different to yours. Basically I just want some off site storage that I have full access to "at some point", so even a days retrieval period wouldn't be a problem for me (think off site backup).
Regarding upload speeds, Virgin do up to 20mbit upload.
