Like a good flask?

I’ve had to do this 15 minutes early before I jump in the shower to go out. not that 15 minutes would of made any difference as it’s completely failed to meet there own claim.
im a little disappointed in the respect they’ve been making them over 100 years and any claims should be achieved however it does what I need it to do so I haven’t a reason to grumble. It’s been a good flask despite the false claims.

Gave my inverter away last year.
Now I want another.

Found my caravan db I had in the old van.
Gonna sort mine out again to plug in mains and charge a leisure battery and cordless gear. Probably stick a tranny inside and ruN sockets to outside the van too.

At 14.8 its no warmer than if you hadn't bothered with the flask and just left it in a cup.

I think I’ve cocked my test up.
Never new this before but it’s quite possible I’ve been over tightening the cap all this time. When I tighten the cap to the point it stops the cap actually sits on the wonk. So the seal might be sitting on the wonk. If I don’t take it right to the stop it sits straight. Maybe I need to re perform this test with the cap not so tight. Never noticed this before.

Well yeah. But that is over 24 hours and quite possibly the cap seal letting heat out. I’ll try again and see if it changes.

I think you are right. Mine leaks if left on its side if the cap is over tight. You only need to back it off an 8th of a turn or so and it seals nicely.

Ok so I’m a total rive ****. Been tightening my cap seal way too much for all this time and it’s obviously had an effect on its performance but I’ve never noticed having drank my brew within a few hours usually. Retest time. Cap seal tightened down with a little nip and it’s sitting much straighter so the seal must now be seated straight. Let’s try again and see what we get. I’ll take a measurement in the morning to ensure we are on track. starting temp 94.4 at 8:30.

I've got a modern Stanley one, still drinkable coffee after 8 hours

I am on my 5 or 6th Stanley. All replaced under lifetime warranty. Once when I called to make a claim I was told maybe I had put too hot water in it!

The latest one has lasted a few years so fingers crossed.

Loses temp quicker than it should. Was 50°c after 12 hours which is fine for me but not gonna make the Stanley claim that’s for sure. Maybe mines got a duff vacuum?? Never really noticed it before until seeing this thread and trying it out properly.

Perhaps them dang Merikuns test their flasks at a higher ambient in somewhere like the Mojave Desert @ 49degc

My toffee thermometer won't fit in mine so il have to use the finger test this time tomorrow lol.

Love a good flask!

When I was young and ignorant (as opposed to a bit older and ignorant) 16, first job out of school, first day ghillieing on an estate. Thermos getting rattled about in the back of an Argo for most of the morning. Came to lunchtime, gasping for a cup of tea and hear that dreadful sound of tea and solids sliding about in a plastic tube. Strange, I thought, I never put any ice cubes in the tea?

I was told by Stanley that overtightening the stopper damages the silicon seal & the flask stop working! Only cure is a new stopper unfortunately!

A guy i work with gave up on flasks. Bought a Kelly kettle to take to work, we work outside, It would boil water quicker than you could put a spoonful of coffee in the mug! You could use grass, twigs, paper, pretty much anything that burns. The novelty would wear off quite quickly for me but it was impressive.

Will have to find a thermometer to settle mut curiosity.

Sounds like it’s performing better than mine. It’s odd because on my fishing trips it’s performed so well with my coffee I’ve never thought to put it to the test.

Not a flask so much but a takeaway mug, the best I’ve had by a long way. Take the roof off your mouth after a couple of hours. Solid, easy to clean and a nice spoot. Highly recommended by me.
I see there’s mixed reviews there on the Tesco site however so maybe they’re a bit hit and miss (like the Stanley’s apparently...)
