Light switch

In this temporary accomodation the bathroom light switch is a wall mounted one inside the bathroom door where there is a shower. Is this not illegal?

Im not sure, how close is the shower/bath etc, i seem to recall switches having to be a certain distance from water but im not sure if thats current uk legislation or not.
I think it can only be a pullcord type inside a bathroom but im not a sparky.

you can have a light switch a bath room providing that
1 all main bods in place
2 all circuits in bathroom RCD protected
3 it is more than 3m (horizontal) from bath, shower or sink

Found this (before madkayaker's post came up). It seems to suggest a lesser horizontal distance (0.6M), unless I am reading it wrong?

Well I'm confused then - aren't they saying that IP rating is needed inside zones 0, 1 or 2?

I replaced a wall switch in my mother in laws house downstairs toilet the other week (one of those really old round ones on a wooden packress - after about 150 years of use it was jamming). Afterwards I worried about the vicinity of a small sink. Then I thought about it some more and realised that the small toilets with sinks in my place of work have 'normal' (looking) wall light switches. The work buildings are fairly new and I'm sure would be wired in compliance with the IEE regs?

Yes, understand that part... but aren't they saying that 0.6M horizontal from the bath is outside of all the zones (i.e. no IP rating needed). Apologies if I am being dim!

I did a bit more reading around the toilet / sink thing on the IEE voltimum site - it seems the rules for toilets are different to showers/bathrooms?

the diagram is not showing zone 2 very well. when you add the zones up you get to 3m (old zone 3) that is the point you can fit normal kit. toilets are different and as long as its not in the bol or under cisten your good to go

Its a common rocker type switch and its 80-90cm away from the end of the bath, old house though.
