Light bar

Anyone know the law on light bars. I've bought an osram ec approved one to just come on with high beam, but on the box it says they must be fitted in pairs. Much conflicting information on the net.

Not road legal, as far as I know, and pretty unpleasant to oncoming traffic. There are other interpretations being bandied about of the vehicle lighting regulations, especially the folk actually selling the light bars. I would only ever fit one (or a pair) for off road use and, even then, use it sparingly.

I did. Not everyone has lightning reflexes when operating the dip switch. Plus, if you flash oncoming drivers, with the light bars and main beams, it could have bad consequences for you, if the oncoming drivers become blinded and disorientated.

Son got pulled for a vehicle check. They were happy about the light bar he had on the truck. Their only concern was it had a separate switch inside the cab to turn it off. I’ve one that came off a wood lorry, it could light up half of Kintyre !

Use a SPDT switch With Center Off, best of both worlds

Mines wired in on a separate switch, not on high beams. I seem to recall the only stipulation is you can’t have independently switchable lights in a series, I think it’s a throw back to the days when people were razzing minis round with a moveable rally light on the roof and blinding coppers chasing them

I had 4 driving lights on the disco, 2 wide and 2 spot

Rarely used them on the road, but one night I was on an unlit country lane with them on and a car overtook me, I turned the lights off and he quickly decided he didn't want to be in front any more, pulled in and let me pass

Seems rather childish, dangerous and a good way to get yourself in trouble and have them "readjusted" for you.
It's a landrover, not a lamborghini, if somebody wants to go past - let them.

You clearly did not read my post and jumped to a conclusion

I turned the lights OFF, this meant the road was now very dark and the car driver decided it would be easier to follow me with my lights on

Obviously assumed I had blinded a driver, when the exact opposite was what happened

Well technically you had blinded him by turning your lights OFF, he couldn't see bu66er all once he was past you

The only thing I disliked about the 4x4 clubs and green laning days was the small subset of people in that category

If I recall correctly you're allowed extra lights if they have a non road purpose. So I think light bars are legal to have fitted on 4x4s, utility vehicles etc but can't be switch on on the road.
