Spent a little time on the mill thinning down 16 repair washers which are going to be welded to the inner uprights around the height adjustment holes, to reduce slop and add strength, should produce a sliding gap of about 1.3/1.5mm.
Plus flattened the mounting plates for the bottom of the outer upright these will be welded on and then drilled for bolting the upright to the U channel.
Welded the bottom upright plates on today and drilled the U channels to suite.
Took longer than I expected due to my own stupidity, welded one of the plates 90 degs out, so had to cut it off, 9" angle grinders rule and start again.........................
Weather was fair today, so dragged the tools out and continued with the build, finished off the other side frame, also test assembled the gantry apart from fitting the castors.
Now have to take it apart, paint and then reassemble it.
Fully raised the underside of the beam is just below 10ft, fully lowered about 6 ft, when the castors are fitted, it'll go in the garage and be raised to about 7ft 3ins under the beam, low yes but still usable inside just.
Mainly built for taking the bodyshell off the chassis of my Scimitar for full a restro, and other work on Land Rover type vehicles...plus lifting/moving heavy steel.
