I am confused now, the Lidl pilot arc torches have a return to a piggy back on the dins socket, those in the listing look to have a bit of flexible earth cable with a crimped on ring.

Earth it to the case somewhere or put a bigger ring crimp on?

Still hoping there's a way to convert the stock torch to pilot arc.

No, the machine itself. I might have it wrong but that's what I thought I had read someplace.

That's worth confirming with parkside, my older PPSK 40A1 machine is compatible with pilot arc torch, but the spec on their own torch ain't too clear, although I reckon it would be ok on the newer units???

Still hoping there's a way to convert the stock torch to pilot arc.

Earthing to the is not a good idea, since neither +ve nor -ve outputs are likely to be connected to the case.

Connecting a wire, able to carry 40A, to the copper nozzle, and running that back to the +ve "earthing" terminal on the front panel would do the trick, but is probably not very practical.

Right then, just stripped the torch that comes as standard with the Parkside PPSK 40 B2 plasma cutter from Lidl.

There's continuity between the brass nozzle and the copper section under that heatshrink where the black probe is:

Do I want to cut that heatshrink off and see what's underneath?

Torch heads and consumables very different.



I'll have a word with work mates in NL and Belgium and see if they can get them online as that might be easier through the midnight express..

@Gragson this is interesting, the non pilot torch that came with my Parkside PPSK 40 B2 is very like your pilot one. I've taken the liberty of rotating your photo:

The red handle / guard is the same.

Looking down the bore of the standard torch you should see a single solid threaded brass piece. This is electrically connected to the bullnose gas union.

On the pilot arc torch variant, the brass part is actually made of two individual parts, separated by an insulator. The inner brass part is electrically connected to the bullnose gas union, whilst the outer brass part is connected to the DINSE plug that goes into the +ve terminal on the plasma cutter.

i expect the machines at four times the price (?) do, they probably have HF start too.

The Parkside machine does have some sort of HF, or high voltage start, else the arc that is the plasma wouldn't ignite.

There's not enough info in the listing, nor image detail, to say it will work. One verified purchaser was not a happy bunny, as it didn't work for them. I can only see one wire connection going to the torch head. You could ask the advertiser for a face on photo of the brass nozzle and electrode mount, and also ask whether the compressed air connection is electrically connected to the correct part of the nozzle and electrode mount. The two thin red wires are for the trigger switch, and are doubled back into the torch, to add to the confusion.
