The thing with the cheaper tools is it can give you an idea if you'll have as lot of use for it, hopefully this will be a quick enough way to clean up steel, if not I haven't put a huge amount of money into it.
I did see a purpose built machine and it was a great job.
I totally agree mate, back in the days when black and decker were in full swing, they did a range of cheap diy tools and I bought a few of those for the same reason and then when they konked out replaced them with a quality one if I found it was something I needed on a regular basis, would you believe that one of the black and decker drills I bought forty years ago is still going strong!
I also bought a Bosch belt sander, but the green DIY quality one, and thought I would replace it with the blue industrial quality when it conked out, that's still going after 15 years too

Lidl stuff has a 2-year warranty - I've used some of their stuff for DIYing to good effect. Correction, that belt sander has a 3-year g'tee!
In my experience of Lidl/Aldi power tools, they're a cut above what you'd expect to get for the price elsewhere and good value for money.
With power tools it's price against the amount and type of use you are going to give it. If you were using it a lot, you'd expect to pay serious money and be looking at Makita/Metabo/Hitachi etc.
You get what you pay for, more or less, but there's no point in paying for things you don't need.

They are OK but don't expect to be using them at 3000 RPM, they have very little torque at the lower speeds.

is that the workzone one for £30
i see that the other day when i was in there and thought about it.
i was looking at getting one from machinemart , there's is £60
same size belts as one from MMart - 50x686
same size stone 150x20x12.7
workzone one is 150rpm more
samesize watt motor..
would be ideal for putting my green stone on it for TCT sharpening.
so what you think of it for £30. worth it or are they crap ?

All the stuff I've ever had from lidl or aldi has been very good, ok it's not bosch or makita quality, but neither is it silverline.
What it does have is a 3 year warranty, and they don't argue with you if you take stuff back, they just change it or refund with no fuss.
Oh, and candor is talking about a belt sander, hand held thingy like you do wood bothering with. Not a bench grinder with a belt sander on one side.

Lidl's own brand sounds ok but I foolishly bought a Challenge belt sander from Aldi and it ate drive belts. They literally melted! Their rubber material ran and stuck all over the pulleys. When I studied it more closely I found that the two pulley axes were skewed. The biggest pulley leaned over so far that that the belt rubbed on the casing. I didn't know about the length of the guarantee so I tried to dismantle the machine to get the pulley axes aligned better, but I'm stuck because the bigger pulley refuses to come off its shaft. I need it to come off so that I can see how its shaft's bearing is mounted, so that I can straighten up the relevant parts. Aldi weren't much help. They couldn't recognise the Challenge model number and kept asking for Aldi's product code instead. I've long since lost the box and guarantee so I'm stuck. WHAT A SILLY BOY I AM! Anyone know how to remove the pulley?
