What's the bodywork like ? Do MOTs in Blighty allow severe rust.
Any perforating rust here is a fail.

Chassis ain’t too bad, two “patches” previous owners put on that need sorting out properly. Wings and doors are both a bit gone at the bottom, step and floor plan showing surface rust but seem solid (by that I mean survived my test with the screw driver and structural tapping hammer). Apart from that needs rear end sorting out with lights etc, exhaust silencer, and some sort of body! What's the bodywork like ? Do MOTs in Blighty allow severe rust.

Well after a bit of digging and 3 pages on google. Found a ldv parts age which had a database of most vans registration etc. According to this it’s got a EN55 (non turbo’d version of the two) pug engine. Which fingers crossed is good news

Slower then a old massy with a 30k box? Even if it is slower, least I can park it outside work without the boss getting annoyed heheThat's gonna redefine your understanding of the word "slow"...
Probably the word "gutless" too...

just a updated Leyland Sherpa change the grill fit round headlamps and there you have it for the front back doors and lights are differentJust found this pic of my old ex post office LDV i something could easily be done with the front wings bonnet and grill to make it look like a 1960's van as i think it was just an updated Morris or Leyland design.
The convertible yellow Skoda also looks quite solid in the foreground and i used to chuck all sorts in it

I think i was going on the look of the Morris J4 Commercial vansjust a updated Leyland Sherpa change the grill fit round headlamps and there you have it for the front back doors and lights are different
engine was a 1.8 petrol old MGB type motor B series or the diesel was land rover diesel (old 2.25one) i think not sure on the diesel
Sorry, did you say they're paying you to take it away?
It's all relative, slow compared to modern vans but perfectly normal for '70s vans. Back in the day going fast in a van wasn't an issue and using the gearbox was perfectly acceptable because that's what they're for.Slower then a old massy with a 30k box? But LDV weren't 70s vans they were supposed to compete with Transits, Sprinters and such like around 2000 if I remember correctly. It's all relative, slow compared to modern vans but perfectly normal for '70s vans.
I don't think they ever aimed to compete, they were just built as cheaply as possible, as that's what their main customer wanted. But LDV weren't 70s vans they were supposed to compete with Transits, Sprinters and such like around 2000 if I remember correctly.
We had then for work and they were all gutless, the MOD keeps everything forever, but LDV vans were in and out of service even faster than they could rust away.
They were, just build in the '90s and '00s, design, layout and running gear all 1970s. The CF was a better van in the '70s than LDV in the 1990s and 2000s.But LDV weren't 70s vans
Or just leave it where it is...Well shall find a way to bodge a ignition up, then find out how painfully slow it is.
Few options for it so far,
Put back on road
Swap in better engine/running gear
Take engine etc out and scrap the rest.
Unrelliable? Certainly not, in my experience. Behind the times yes, noisy, yes, rough, yes, fun? Well my ldv 200 was, and because it was lightly laden it was quick and economical too.I don't think they ever aimed to compete, they were just built as cheaply as possible, as that's what their main customer wanted.
Royal Mail knew whatever they bought would be abused and need lots of parts, and would have next to no resale value, so as long as what ever they bought was reasonably reliable, it was a case of the cheapest.
If it wasn't for Royal Mail, LDV would never have lasted as long as they did.
