I cut the first patch out of the top of the deck under the blade where its not worn much, used a vernier and its 1mm. I think the deck is much thicker in 'places' but those bits haven't rusted through!If that's off a John Deere it will have been thicker than 1mm originally, at least 2mm or more.
If it is a proper USA JD the deck steel on them is quite thick, maybe 3mm.
A 200l steel oil drum makes a good doner for patches because it already has a curve.
It's actually made of lots of bits welded together I think?
