LeMans 2022 Classic

Well I'm over in France at the 2022 LeMans Classic surrounded by loads of beautiful cars!
It's the 5th time I've been with my friends and it's a hot one!
A few pictures, the tank is in the forest of Alencon a few miles north of LeMans.

That's some rather nice machinery you have there. Ford versus Ferrari, Le Mans 66 type stuff.

I went to Le Mans back in the 80's, 24 heure du mans bike race. Notable memory is of drinking litres of Pastis with a French racing team, who I had met earlier when my bike threw its chain near the circuit.

They had pulled over, the whole team transporter, fixed my chain (because the spare split link I'd carried for 3 years was the wrong size.....) and invited me to their paddock at the circuit.

It took me 3 days to recover.

Spent the weekend at Le Mans too. A great weekend, I'm still knackered, don't have the stamina nowadays of my first visit to the main race in '79.

Watching the mechanics work on the Gulf Mirage that is just visible behind the Capri in the photos above was interesting -but not in a good way when they fitted the rear wheels before testing the (final drive driven) alternator with the rear wheels fitted and the rear end up on a trolley jack. What could possibly go wrong? I made sure not to be in the crowd that was watching from the front of the car

Spotted this in our camp site, guy was removing loads of teeth from inside the gearbox after stripping third gear, he was going to continue racing in top.

Both these Bizzarrini's blew their engines during the first race on Saturday afternoon............. very expensive 30 mins racing, neither continued..... more tomorrow...
