The battery, by the sound of it, is in deep discharge. As long as it shows some voltage open circuit it may recover. The following procedure is for recovering sealed lead acid batteries, but as it is a lesiure battery it should work.
Slow charge the battery at about 250mA for several days, at this rate it will not be possible to over charge the battery, and it shouldn't gas noticeably.
Take the battery off charge, leave overnight, then measure the open circuit voltage. If it is less than about 11v, the battery is no good. If the battery shows 11v or more, perform a standard charge and it should be ok.
