Learning MIG

Just got a MIG welder and to learn it i am going to make a trolley for it. To do this i am planning to make it out of angle steel. I am living in the Salisbury area. Just a couple of quick questions

1 Anyone know the best place either online or local to buy it from?
2 What size of angle is the best to buy?
3 What material is the best to use?
4 Does anyone have pictures or plans of one?
5 Any general advise?

I am also thinking about making my first trolley after I pick up more gas today. I managed to score some fresh scrap from a skip before the rag and bone man found it! Could have been from library or garage shelving originally but some useful bits.

Do a search in the projects section loads of awesome trolley ideas. I am now looking at everything in the house that has casters and evaluating how badly everything that has casters actually needs casters! Could just buy some I suppose but seems like cheating as the rest of the materials have been free so far.

for 25mm x 25mm x 3mm angle its a 6m lenth your looking at about £8

Ahem! There must be one or two crippled shopping trolleys about if you look hard enough? Free wheels, or even four wheels...

I have these wheels on an engine trolley, a tool trolley, and even on a set of heavy storage drawers. These seem to be able to take whatever weight you throw at them.

You can get 6 meters of 25mm x 25mm x 3mm angle for just £8 ?!

I'd think id done well to get it for twice that. Ill have to resort to buying off the gypo's i think.

I found the exact stuff to use. Dexion shelving!

The shelves are the right width for a welder and the brace pieces and shelf fronts are the idea width for the frame uprights.

I wanted one of these.



So I made this.



Then painted.



Then stuck a few castors on.

That does look awesome. I know some one that has some of that shelving up. Wonder if he will miss some of it

Yeh that's what I get it for from my local steel stockholder, 25x3 ms flat bar for £4.80 for 6m and 25x25x2mm square box section ms £11.80 for 7.5 m

Also have to admit I just bought the cart for my tig from machine mart, £46 on a vat free day

Made mine out of odds..

Mower wheels and after the pic was taken some new front casters and tig touch holder etc

Im about to make a similar thing but it needs to hold a a snap on top box and have some sort of work bench. Its a fair walk from the drive to my storage/shed at my mums,I've clocked up a few miles there!
I have al the steel and wheels (two directional with brakes)
