It's amazing how people - including our media in Britain - talk about the Nazis as if they were completely separate to the German people. No they WERE the German people!

Not ALL the population . Much the same as not all the British supported Brexit. Brain washing allied with a compliant and controlled press combined with an apathetic population who are too easily bought with false promises and financial inducements go a long way to disaster on many fronts.

The old Police station in Swansea still has pockmarked walls from shrapnel. People walk past every day and don't give it a second thought

I used to spend a lot of time in France. In one nearby village there is a wall pockmarked with bullet holes - it's where people were lined up to be shot

During the last Indref I was offered a sticker to put on my my blue car by someone canvassing for the SNP in Broxburn.

I think you didn't get the meaning of invasion?
What the allies did was  not invade Germany but undoing their invasion of the rest of Europe. In the very end the only solution is to push on to the root of evil, and thankfully your country (together with many more) did, at a terrible cost.
It makes me shiver to realise this migth have parallels with todays events, and the sacrifices we migth need to bring again in the future.

My Aunt was Austrian. Raised in Vienna. She met my uncle in 1946 - he was in the British army sent over to sort the mess out. He had been too young to fight. They married in Vienna and came back to live in Swansea in 1947. My aunt was terrified. She knew Swansea had been heavily bombed. She hardly spoke any English. And yet she was astonished by how kind and friendly the people were to her. She always said Britain was an amazing country. No way would British people have been treated like that if it had been the other way around. She lived the rest of her life in Swansea and passed away in 2006. Like another mother to me.
She also said how ashamed she always was of the way the Austrian people had treated the Jews in the years before the war. And of course Hitler was an Austrian.

Totally agree. My mother was Austrian and borne in Vienna but did a runner to UK in '36. I visited my cousins etc when the Russians moved out in '55 . One uncle was so obviously a Nazi that my dad ( ex F.A.A air crew)) had a problem dealing with him .

Austria's greatest acheivement was convincing the world that Beethoven was Austrian and Hitler was German.

I agree here. But her sole reason was because they were Jewish.
My Uncle was in the Palestine Police after the war.
And the way the poor people are treated to this day is awful.
I was brought up in the Middle East so have a very good understanding of it all.

People forget the first country the nazi’s invaded was Germany.
