OK, I am restoring a 1954 Austin Healey which has Aluminum shrouds front and rear. The front one is tired, cracked and in need of some serious TLC.
The question is: should I deliver the shroud to a local(ish) classic car workshop and then pay them to do it or should I learn to weld it myself? I have Oxo-Acetylene equipment and a MIG.
Now I have seen the Tinmantech site and the equipment for an Ali. gas start up kit is going to be north of £600 by the time it gets to sunny North London which is a substantial chunk of money.
So my questions are:
Should I invest in Ali welding equipment and learn how to weld it using my gas equipment or should I just chuck the shroud in the car and drive to a specialist?
