if its chipboard not much of a chance to lift it

if anything you may break through the top im just saying

if you do manage it

support it by another beam infront of the orginal the sag maybe too much easier to install another beam at side of the other

suposed to be bodging the daughters garage roof tomorrow weather permitting cut a 6x4 piece of the wet chipboard out and lay some torch on felt over it stop it leaking . it needs re roofing and i was going to do it this year as i scored the felt freebut she has sold the house now so its not getting done

better off drying it out and melting the tar onto the roof so it runs into the holes

this will make a good enough seal until main repairs this summer or asap

as ive already had to do it as some idiot who shouldnt be on the roof went on it anyway and put a loverl boot mark through it

its bad and the chipboard has realy sagged and cracked.i scored the piece of board free so will do it . nothing flash as long as it looks half reasonable and dont leak

but is it worth cutting out or just place the board straight over the sagged part

seal the board to the roof with tar and just felt over remember its only temporary until the work can be done asap

last time i had only a few hrs to get it dry and get it sealed quickly my only option was a fast repair to the roof

Going to show what we face on a daily basis...message left on my phone from a potential customer "we have stains on the ceiling and i can see from the road i need one or two tiles changing as they are broke, was going to call you last winter for a check over but never got around to it,anyway its only a small repair so can you fit me in" Now before smart phones it would of been very hard to convince this customer that its more than a couple of tiles.. plus look at the water holding in the gutter

i was lucky enough to have a digital camera very early on before phones took off and did the same as you took photos and showed the customer

always the same excuse didnt think it was that bad only a few slates are off was the phonecall

now that I've removed the offending shelf.
I can see where it sagging but much.
so when the weather picks up ,I'll go on the top and unscrew some of the bolts .
I'll cut out the old roof from inside and lift the the sheets up and wedge a piece of thin wood in.
once done etc. I'll board it up inside so I dont see the roof mess.
I may buy some insulating boards as well.
thats the cheapest and easiest method.

How long ago did you do the last bodge. (metal over felt.)

Why not do the job properly and forget about it for the next 30 years

this the second time that my garage roof started to leak.
this caused by ice forming and when it rains water has no where to go but rise through the corrugated roof where it joined.
still got the old roof under it but starting to give way. any idea of cost.
would rather have glass fibre laid on top of marine ply wood.
about 20 L x 14 wide

I did that when I 1st put it up but that was donkey years ago.
originally it had felt and chip board but it leaks after about 10-15 years .
so I put this on top and it lasted all these years but I think the old chip boards has given up.
when I go up to check over the years I use a board to kneel on ,so with my weight it sunken in a bit.
so water settle causing a pool and when it get icy water has no where to go but up.
would prefer to put new boards up but I dont think the sheets will straighten out.
thinking of using GRP .

no it where the two sheets meet in other words joint. when the water freezes over and its start to melt underneath water has no where to go .
but up through the joints then leaks through the old roof.

cant put a premade trusses +membrane because theres two garages and next door can't afford it anyway.
I'll get some quotes.

dont want rubber sheeting or felt

grp wont do either due to next doors roof is in for a hard time sealing that up and right

its also the same with next door older and cant afford it splitting the garages is best option

for start learn to spell miracles.
bodge repair is temporary.
next door just had theres done a couple of years ago.
as for you Roofman thanks hadn't realise you were just giving me an idea on quote.
I dont expect the roof to be cheap about 2-3 grand.

id rather use a ridge method on both propertys as less trouble with both of them

next door can repair his when needed and you can sort your own this includes highering your slope of roof fall

yet with very little cost to it

Easy fix. Ten mins, tops. Okay, maybe fifteen. Easy peasy.

The only flat roof`s I have seen worth a wrist flick are lead or asphalt (sharp sand mixed with bitumen).

got the roof patched up today .lousiest part was scraping off the wet gravel and cutting the rotten boards out . fitted some new ones in that i managed to scrounge for nothing then layed the torch on felt using the clarke roofing torch i scored for a tenner at autojumble even got a full propane bottle given for nowt so a cheap fix . was going good untill my mate helping stood on the new felt while it was still hot and left his footprints in it not the best of jobs but who cares its only a quick fix the house is getting sold . put a second hand window in last week i got given as the old one was well knacked

I had this to repair was only supposed to be temporary job

I had found a load of insulated sheets it was cheaper to fit those than to repair the whole roof as its old its been so neglected

if it wasnt for that polystirene he would have hit the floor for his age on the roof pure stupid

he knew it was leaking in and it was the old case id spend my money elsewhere than do whats needed this was in the bad rain in march last year

I've decided to get the roof done properly.
got over 15 grand worth of stuff in there.
she said what are you saving your money for, dont know really just like having money to fall.
there you go there's reason.
not sure what might be best to go for.
its either grp, rubber or felt or tin sheeting.
dont know what these bitchumen felt are like these days.
in the old days you got 10 years life out of them.
next door had theirs dont and it look like it was done by a bunch of cowboys...
they didn't even finished it off.
they paid them but the cowboys didn't come back to finish it off.
to many cowboys out there.their van has nice graphics all over them giving the impression they are professionals.

Felt done properly lasts well. My garage lasted 35 years. Would expect it to last the same again
