Currently have a slow leaking T piece:

Whats my best approach?

Also any idea why the pipes have been painted silver?

Second leak I've had since living in the house!

cut it out de solder and pull of lower joint and clean the solder of it with emery tape. new t piece 2 new 22mm couplings a bit of new pipe and an olive for the valve fitting and solder up it hasn't been cleaned and fluxed up properly in the 1st place nor has the excess flux been wiped off causing corrosion

As above to do a proper job, or to buy you some more time:

Get yourself a tube of Fernox LSX, clean up the outside of the fitting, drop the pressure in the system a bit and smear on the leak with LSX. The LSX will be cured by the leaking water, when cured restore water pressure.

Remember to re do joint properly when you have more time.

are you any good at soldering pipe and remember 22 takes a bit more doing than 15mm do soldering right clean joints fittings flux heat not to blacking point but untill the flux starts bubbling and then touch your solder on it its hard to get it wrong but you still can and as its very close to the floor and skirting you might not get a 2nd go at it if you muck it up

also depending on the age of the house it might be 3/4 size pipe not 22mm

depending on how you feel your soldering skills are to make it easyer as above remove all the joints clean all the solder and where the streight coupler joint is you could use a 22mm streight compression joint and solder the rest that way if you make a mistake all you have to do is remove one side of the compression fitting and if its 3/4 pipe yuo can get a olive to fit to make the 3/4 fit in to the compression fitting dont forget to use a little ptfe tape always helps

I can confirm it's definitely 22mm

Going to get myself a heat/soldering mat to save setting fire to the place!

cut a bit of the skirting board away either side and a bit of plaster from behind. give yourself some room to work as it looks a tight fit with no give just wrap a bit of tin round as a heat shield

In the past i have filed the internal ring off from around the middle of a Straight Coupling Fitting, allowing it to slide down while you insert the new bit of pipe then slide back into the correct position to solder up.

I don't see why you would need PTFE tape on a compression fitting tbh, As surely the olive is there to make sure it seals properly?

yes its there but i always feel a bit safer with the ptfe as well double safe is my way of thinking i will seal i micro hole and be ok and for the 20 secs it takes to add it allways better safe than sorry

im not saying it right but got shown how to use one 25 years ago and he always added ptfe so i always have but never had a leak as of yet

i went round a house the otherday the filber washer had split and the shops had closed i was hoping it was just a nut needed tightening but got the old washer put it on wraped ptfe on it done it up sorted it for a day untill i could get back wth a new washer

only 3 weeks ago i had a mate call up he had took apart the sink ubend hes putting it back together and had a leak tryed it a few times before phoning me i went round as he had undone the the nut the rubber had streched as i was going back in 2 days time i cut the rubber to fit back round the pipe ptfe fitted worked ok and then went round with a new fitting 2 days later

shouldn't be needed on new pipe and fittings but is a help on old stuff along with a bit of jointing paste

Yup. Been there done that.
You can buy solder slip couplings off the shelf too.

Which simply gets cut off if the olive and fttting are as they should be. Funnist ones I've seen are on the thread of the compression fitting - suppose it stops the threads corroding . . .

Only compression fitting I've had leak was to do with what's mentioned above - didn't realise (I'm too young :-) ) house had 3/4 pipe and used 22mm . . . one special olive later and no leak . . .

waste of time and ptfe in my opinion just dont over tighten the nut and deform the olive
