Hi, I have just fitted an argon gauge to my bottle (twin gauge type) and hooked up a flow meter. I can hear a hiss from the conection below the meter (fitting conecting flow meter to plastic tube that goes in to the weld set )and feel the gas escape. Should this conection have a seal in the seat or do I need to wrap it with tape. Any advice appreciated

Nope, just 2 typical gas fittings with opposite tapers which pull together with a nut. Any visual damage to tapers or thread?

It should be a tapered seat, with a rounded hosetail to fit nicely in the taper.
The pipe should be a fairly tight push on fit to the hosetail, and also have a jubilee clip or 'O' clip.
Sometimes just tightening up slightly more does the trick.

Once you've dealt with the obvious leaks, it's a good idea to brush leak detection fluid (or washing up liquid mixed with water) over all the fittings to find any residual leaks (A leak is shown by a mass of bubbles). Even small leaks can go unnoticed and can be quite costly with lost gas. With fuel gasses its essential that the system is checked for leaks each time it is set up.
