well chaps, I need a bit advice here. I have a 20 year old full glass, plastic roof, lean to conservatory which has started leaking. No doubt this is due to high winds and heavy rain, but I need to do something about it (new roof really not an economical option).
The water is running out the bottom of the plastic facing of the middle double glazing panel, so could be wending its way from anywhere down the joints. I fitted plastic cladding to the inside of the roof 5 or so years ago, but no sign of the leak Running down the inside of the roof.
Just before the rain started again today, I had a look at the roof, and found the plastic which fits over the end edge of the polycarbonate panels were all loose, and when I pushed them back in place, water could be seen inside the sandwich walls of the roofing panels. I will pull these off, clean, and re silicone them, along with replacing all the silicon with marine quality stuff, as soon as the weather permits.
Another thing to add, is the original fitters made a cod of an end cap at the corner of the roof, and filled their error with silicon. I discovered that if the end of the gutter isn’t in the ‘right’ position, I get a tiny leak inside in the corner. This leads me to hope that the new leak is more to do with silicon failure, than the failure of the roof seals.
I have no objection to applying silicon to within an inch of its life, but does anyone have any advice about best way to approach this repair.
Long post, but rain stopped photo opportunity.
