We noticed a small wet patch on the ceiling in the spare bedroom. Its right next to the chimney stack as it comes up through the bedroom. Going up in the roof space to investigate confirms that the stack is wet on the front right corner as viewed from the front of the house (I didn't get a pic and its a horrible spot to get to as its really tight up there!). Weep is more accurate than leak - its just wet, not dripping but with this current rain, it doesn't get chance to dry out at all and so has become noticeable.
Some pics from the front of the house from outside below - the close ups reveal the potential problem?
So two questions:
1. The roof is slate - how do I run a ladder up there without damaging the slates? Dad has a set of hooks with wheels that we can attach to the ladder and will run up the roof and hook over the ridge that i can borrow, but slate always seems so fragile I am worried that I will wreck the tiles. We have only used them on Kent Peg tiles which seem a bit tougher than slate.
2. Apart from the pointing above the lead at the bottom where there appears to be a gaping hole, what else should I look for when up there?
