Your post interested me, so i looked some stuff up, and came across this -



You have to wonder as to definitions sometimes. At the absolute, it appears that Bismuth is unstable. But, then there's that "half life of more than 1 billion times the estimated age of the universe" comment!

Look at this list of radioactive isotopes by half life. For reference, the predicted age of the universe is about 13*10^9 so everything below uranium 238 has a half life longer than the age of the universe, there's quite a few of them.

going to say scrappies wont take lead thats been melted

got a lot of lead thats been melted so cant do much with it. made a very heavy pendulum for a customer once who got his sums wrong..... he wanted a big steel ball filling with lead it was rather a lot heavyer than he incorrectly calculated

Id say that, if you really want to weigh it in, it would not be hard to either a) find another yard, or, b) make it look like it 'was' somthing, even if that 'somthing' is nothing more than weights.

Belts for diving / fishing weights etc etc Even making somthing look like stock for casting would make it look like it was supposed to be, rather than an attempt to hide something.

Since the cash ban, my local yard says they encounter far fewer 'out of town' sort, and, as a result, i expect, are less on the lookout for stolen goods.

On the few occasions I've weighed-in scrap lead, it was usually trimmings from the ends of sheets up to 10mm thick, plus the sweepings off the floor after we'd cut said sheets with a table saw (yep, really!). Once we'd lined an ISO container with 8 or 9 tonnes of lead sheets and swept the floor, I melted the sweepings in an old wok, just leaving it to cool with maybe an inch or so of lead each time. The scrapyard guy had no objection to taking these wok-shaped 'ingots' off me and I had no objection to taking a sheaf of twenties off him

I'm sure I've still got a few boxes of .38 SWC heads, are they worth anything?.

Retail about £30/500. Postage is a killer so if you want to sell them put them on Gunstar for local collection.

Why not just advertise it on here? I buy scrap lead for my bullet casting business and I'm sure others on here use lead for various projects.

How much do you use? I've some 2" square lengths at work heading for the scrappy. If you'd like to collect from Westminster for scrap money I'm sure it can be arranged.

If you can get a cube of lead you could cast it into an IBC and then leave it at your local chemical yard and watch some very confused forklift drivers

Though the cost of this practical joke might not align with the amount of giggles you get

I have forgoten all my nuclear physics, I used to be able to tell you how to make gold, never seemed to go down as well as I thought it should, in a pub setting;-)

Er, probably about five years free accommodation courtesy of the government if they find out.

As far as I know, .38 SWC bullet heads will need to be held on a certificate, and not having one is bad news.

Didn't need to put them on my ticket when I bought them, same as cases & primers, it was only complete rounds that needed to go on ticket.

Has the law changed?.
