A metre cube of water is a metric ton ... lead is a bit denser than water so I guess 800 x800x800...jeff

Out of curiosity as to what youre up to - whats its scrap rate got to do with casting ingots?

I made the mini mistake once of melting down a load of old pipe in a saucepan.

The pan was only 1/2 full...

...but, as above, lead weighs *considerably* more than water!

(bending plastic handle with 300c mixture being carried)

if your just scrapping it and melting in to ingots they may not accept it unless u can prove where it came from

yes - i was going to say that. if youre scrapping, just weigh in as it is.

im on a casting forum, and yards dont seem to like ingots at all.

if you only have a small amount, the best way to flog it is probably in small ingots on ebay.

...but you would be there forever if you had a load.

You'll lose a lot of it by melting it down. Sell it to the scrappy just as you get it for the best price. I've got some lovely chunky sash weights

Why not just advertise it on here? I buy scrap lead for my bullet casting business and I'm sure others on here use lead for various projects.

I was thinking of melting down scrap batteries, lead on its own is double the price per kilo. £800 a tonne.

Yes I know its a stupid idea, I was bored !

Cut off any wiped joints and weigh them in separately, they fetch more because the solder contains tin.
