Why do they let it get so bad before doing anything about it.?.
It was designed for Rover, BL etc. from the 1950's to the late 1990's. Back when it was new and the cars were smaller it was not to bad. but by the time LDV were in production it was out of date and there was no funds to update.
A few tips.
Make sure both pistons on the cylinder move freely and equally. Gently price back the rubbers and see if they are leak free. By the time they are leaking fluids it is to late. The outer seals are very tight. This was the inner seals were not that good.Later Lucas and Girrling were a lot better.
Make sure the Auto-adjusters are free and fitted on the right side, yes they can be fitted on the wrong side.
If the springs are rusted, junk them. On both sides.
De glaze the drums and make sure the bearings are good.
On the cable make sure the cables are fitted correctly. Early Sherpa's had a Near side and an Of side. Not sure if that design idea was carried forward. I small amount of copper grease on the lever will not go amiss.
Make sure the handbrake lever has full travel, memory tells me it used to have 13 clicks. But don't quote me on that.
Adjustment of the hand brake. Set the adjusters to the shoes are as close to the drums, with out rubbing. Please make sure the lever is fully released. ( Bean there. Don't ask) Then adjust the cables to give an even pull. Some LDV vans had a warped floor pan.
What LDV/ rover sending out a sub standard vehicle for a quick sale?
