As rig pig says "Put some steel mesh in or use glass reinforced to stop it cracking as the cars run over it." we use the fiber reinforced saves re bar cost & quicker, Get it delivered why beat yourself up mixing, a slightly drier mix (lower slump) is good but make sure what you order is delivered

I HATE wearing even a jacket when driving.
I normally only wear a T shirt at most times all year round, unless it is really cold.
Then I may put 2 T shirts on, one thermal, if it is stupidly cold & I am working outside then I will put some additional gear on.
I have a reasonable layer of personal insulation IYKWIM!

stable temperature? we may as well be in the bloody carpark for all the good it would do. we have 3 machine shops, all different temperatures due tot he sizes and amounts of machines and work being done, 2 assembly shops again different temps for same reasons, some pre production rooms again different temps and then we have measurement rooms with renshaw CMM tables. these table have printed on the side, must be maintained at 20 degrees C, however every time you go in there its a different temperature, there is no thermometer, it relies on the AC (that doesn't work) that is showing 20 C. we have proved time and time again that if we machine something on my cell, then take it straight into the CMM room, it will measure ok, but then if we take it into the other machine shop, leave it half hour then go and check it its out of tolerance on key areas. they imply do not care, and I have been told many times that at the moment we are on a quantity not quality system. and we are supposedly a centre of excellence for hgv brakes. it really is worrying

BB, yes I thought that was where you were.
Obviously, local knowledge & all that, I have worked on your site as a specialist contractor many moons ago, fixing CNC machines as a specialist.
It is appalling IMHO.
However that is the way of the world, do it as cheap as possible, if we kill a few people on the way it is worth it, seems to be the attitude of big business these days, as long as they make maximum profit for their shareholders.

Power float, if not screed & tamp with a good board, and a careful floating if needed.

Unless you are very good with a float I would hire a power float you may regret not spending the little extra for a long time to come!

yes I have, and my advice is don't do it foe the first time on a job you will have to look at every day. Lay your concrete then go over the top with a 1:1 mix of sand:cement called screed. Youtube will be your friend. I treat screed like render, I float it as best as I can then let it start to go off and feather edge it. Takes a bit of practice and do not step on it until it is cured

If you're using mesh on a 150mm depth, pick up a couple of bags of mesh men/ castle spacers (same thing, different name). That'll keep your reinforcing at the right height. For rebar having some 30, 40, 50 triples about is handy. There is a slightly larger size, up to 70 mm, after that you're into wire chair territory.

Very good advice... I have used these plastic "castle spacers" before. Cheap to use and proper thing for the job!

The concrete spacers are cheaper than the plastic ones.

For wire chairs Speedwell Reinforcement are hard to beat on price.
