No idea re construction of the thing, but won't porcelain get like ice when wet?

4 bags per tonne is alright not brilliant but alright. It's what we would use on council slabs but porcelain is a lot more delicate. A lot of people lay it on a proper mix of building Sand. They also aren't allowing any extra to slurry the backs of the slabs
You'll probably never hear from them again once they know that you know what you're talking about!I've got others coming round to quote, this time I plan to spell out what my expectations are and ask them to comment.
mixing concreat it' more like 14 bags of cement per dumpy bag of ballast?
never counted when I've been mixing mortat just do what the brickies say.... pretty sute it's a lot more than that too tho?

Yeah, it would be beyond common sense to do it by sections, so that the market could continue in a slightly reduced form. Our towns market square has been ripped up for a much needed makeover, all the old slabs were cracked, loads of cobbles missing etc. The contractors are charging over a million quid and estimate 8 months to finish the job.
No wonder, I've only seen a few guys working on it, 4 yesterday, and only ever 3 before that.
8 Months means there are no functions possible until summer is over, whereas we usually have farmers markets and others stuff most Saturdays.

One of the blokes is always on the phone, another is always sweeping stuff up... on rough ground, debris everywhere.....Quite often with jobs like that throwing people at it will not make it go any quicker at all. A good gang of 3-4 blokes will usually get the same amount of work done as a mediocre gang twice the size.
Half as quick as a good gang of 6-8 finding good blokes is the problem

The initial reason it was to take so long was that they were going to finish it in sections, 'to save disruption'... but they've got the whole lot totally dug up now, with crude footpaths through it.
ThisI would be wary of any contractor pricing this type of work that's not vat registered, its virtually impossible to stay below the threshold and claim to be busy. If they are not busy you don't want them.
Bob
I can see me doing the entire job in the end.
