Hi

I have an old hayter 1995. It has a good strong engine but body was done.

After a lot of shouting and swearing and heat I got the friction plate off. The engine has spent a lot of time on its side.

The whole reason for doing this was the engine . It won't run. I have fuel other than no spark. What problems of being on its side may it have caused it to not run

The throttle cable could also be the ignition kill in one position so check that the coil isn't being grounded. The wire may have come adrift and is shorting.
Being on its side could have drained the oil into the combustion chamber and soaked the plug.
Stale fuel could be another cause.
You need an air gap between the rotor and coil. You can use thin card to set it.
This assuming the information is elevant to your engine. Just going by my old Hayter.

Thank you. It has became an attack for another day now . New fuel bought new plug and turned over pulled it with no plug

I will keep u posted. From a second hand body at 30 quid and am at 70 now.

Oh well it's a good we mower when it runs

if not run for a while take apart the carb and give it a good clean out even just putting new fuel in the tank it prob wont run i had a mower only a week ago had not run for 5 years the rust in the float bowl was unbleaveable

if you got a sonic tank use it or if not get a can carb cleaner and blow it out and a 2nd go with the air compresser if your carefull (ps if you use carb cleaner use glasses a few times ive been near in the face when you blow through and it comes back at you )

Now that's a coincidence, I have just come in for a few minutes cool off, also after working on another old Hayter mower engine! This one has been out of action for 4 years and so looking for a little job to do in the shade, I took the tank and carb off and gave it a good clean out and now it's running again.

As Angellonewolf says, you may need to clean your carburettor out too. If yours is the Briggs & Stratton engine like mine, they are easy to take off and strip apart.

Note how far the idle speed adjuster screw is in before you unscrew it to clear the jet out.

If yours had petrol in when laid on it's side, it could just be that the carb is flooded. Leave it upright for a while and try staring again with the throttle only slightly open.

Have you checked the throttle cable is working and not stuck in the closed position ? It does that if the outer sleeve comes loose.

Getting annoyed the space between the Coul and the wire for spark plug. I can but £5 between the two. And the kill switch is coming away from the sid of it

Cables are OK. I will try what you suggested thanks. I was taking plug out and squirting some fuel in it. But nothing

when ever i get a mower strimmer chainsaw etc first i do is fuel in the bore choke on and pull if it dont start spark plug,then switch if its workng or not(you can cheak this by removng the kill wire ) ,then cheak the gap of the coil if still dead its most lighty the coil at fault

ops forgot to add on mowers the keyway is ok or the flywheel might have shifted so cheak it not sheared that cheaks the electric system unless its a sit on mower that has dead man switches

Back at it today. I have taken few pic's. Kill switch is lifting .

The coil whatever it is at the flywheel looks like there is a big gap. But you can just see through it on one side.

Is there supposed to be a gap?

Hi

We have a runner. got the coil off. It must have just been running for a long time.

The grease and grime I had to scrape it off with knife.

Now all we need is some rain for the grass to grow
