Lathe transportation local to Northampton

Hey everyone,

I need to move my lathe (Harrison 140) and a small horizontal mill a few streets up, Ideally Id like to find someone who knows what theyre doing ie not lift it by the headstock etc, A few people ive spoken to havnt filled me with confidence. So if anyone can recomend anyone that they have actually used that would be really helpfull.

I would of looked on homeworkshop but it seems to be down and searching on here hasnt given me what Im looking for.

Apparently the Landy Lifts guy is very good. I couldn't use him because it was too far, but I hear he offers a good service. I think @doubleboost used him to move his Harrison 140.

Harrison 140s need to be lifted with two high tensile strength 25mm+ bars through the cabinet.

I’d be half tempted to make something custom next time round.

They’re a pig to move as the head stock end is so bloody heavy.

Ideally you want a set of 4 brothers, all adjustable independently. Because back of lathe is also heavier than the front.

You then want cardboard, carpet or nylon to stop the chains scratching the lathe.

Bear in mind the lathe is 700+kg dry.

I tried to remove as much as possible to facilitate lifting it.

Bear in mind, them steel bars want to slip out of them holes too. Hence why I say custom. Ideally you’d have a ring on each end of the bar to hook to.
