hi is there anyone near dewsbury that would be able to do a bit of turning?
got a pillar drill drill from late dads shed got the chuck but the arbor to fit it into drill is to big.
fits into morse taper.

or can anyone recomend somwhere?
have tried sip but they no longer do arbor for that model.

This thread from earlier today has a good bit of info on morse tapered drill chucks.

It could well be easier to buy a new one than to try and machine the morse taper to the next size down.

Do you mean you need a smaller morse taper arbour?

That's what it looks like. The best bet is to buy a new one, there are usually a few on ebay. the chuck should have the taper size on it e.g JT33, JT6 or whatever and if you guess the diam of the hole in the spindle to get the morse taper size that's needed.

~18mm[the fattest bit] is a MT2
smaller is obviously 1 and larger is a 3.
If you have a chuck with MT2 taper but want a MT1 I might be able to
swap a chuck with you.

You might struggle with getting that turned anyway, most MT arbours are hardened, so when you turn it to size you turn off the case hardened layer and whats underneath can be soft depending on how it was made. And its not a particulary pleasant job peeling off a hardened layer from a shaft on a lathe.
What drill is it out of curiosity? someone might have the same and be able to to tell you what taper it is etc...

have measured hole in chuck its 18mm as is hole taper holder.
what size do i need?
sorry if these are idiot questions but never had to deal with morse taper stuff before.
its an sip mfg date 1992.

Good move. It's bloody near impossible to turn a decent morse taper for non-professionals anyway. You only need to be a fraction of a degree out for it to not grip properly.

If its just the arbour your getting you need to get the other one (Jacobs taper) out of the chuck. Grip the tang of the morse taper securely in a vise, have it horizontal, get a piece of 50mm x 12mm x 200mm or similar piece of mild steel and a biggish hammer. Place the end of the mild steel bar behind the chuck and give a swift hard knock with the hammer. The chuck and arbour should split apart.
