SIP F16-16 Pillar Drill - New Chuck + Arbour Question

Hi All,

I'm wondering if people would be able to give me a hand trying to find new chuck and arbour for my recently acquired SIP F16-16 drill (got it for £40, but it needs a new chuck and arbour as it didn't come with one).

I know from the manual and a quick search on Google that the spindle taper is MT2 meaning i need an MT2 chuck, i've found many of these on RDG Tools, im now just trying to source the required arbour that i need with the chuck.

Could someone tell me what the difference between a draw bar and a normal arbour, and how i would go about finding out which taper of arbour i will need for my drill?

Oh and im also looking to get a chuck that supports 3-16mm bits.

Just buy the chuck and arbour from RDG tools I bought 2 keyless from them a while ago, very good chucks

draw bar arbor will have a thread on the back you can put a threaded rod into to hold the arbor in from the opposite end of the spindle.

As for the taper of the arbor, that will match the taper on the chuck. Usually just easier to get a chuck with an MT2 arbor already installed.

Cheers for the help guys. From your advice ill be buying a 1-13mm keyless MT2 chuck, I can't really see myself using 14-16mm drill bits any time soon, bargain price as well if you ask me.

The draw-bar arbor would normally be used in a lathe. The arbor for a pillar drill will have a squared-off "tang" end. I'd agree that it would be easiest to source a 16mm chuck complete with an MT2 arbor, e.g. from RDG Tools or from Chronos Ltd.

in RDG tools they come with the arbour. You sad the taper is mt2 the chuck and arbour need to match. drawbar ans normal is the wat its held in the taper

the arbour fits in the mt2 taper and has a shorter taper for the check to sit on.

Be careful, some of the holesaw arbours will not fit a 13mm chuck

Thanks for warning me of that. I can see myself using holesaws at some point, so i think it will be buying a 16mm chuck.

What are peoples thoughts on chuck guards? From my school days they didn't seem to be much use. Do i need to get my hands on one?

If it's a reasonably powerful drill a 16mm chuck would be more useful.

It has a 0.75hp 550w motor, which im guessing is a reasonable standard for drills these days?
