I have a Harrison L6 12" lathe, I recently replaced the old 2hp 3phase motor with a 1.5hp single phase one from Machine mart. There is ample power to do most things on it now, so I wouldn't be put off buying a machine with a 3ph motor, it's very easy to swap out for a 1ph one.
Cheers, Mick.
Any pics of the lathe mick ?
right then
cheers for the suggestions so far
thinking about a harrison l6
what other lathes are have same size beds on them???
omly 1 thing wrong with that
It's actually older than me and I'm 46!
Cheers, Mick.
the only DSG lathes i have seen are like mahoooosive,3mtr+ bedsColchester Student, very simmilar in size and spec and much sought after, also Harrison M300, basically a later metric version of the L6 with squarer styling. To be honest, you'll probably be well happy with any industrial quality machine that isn't worn out. The absolute daddy of small to medium size lathes is the Dean, Smith and Grace http://www.lathes.co.uk/dsg/index.html However, these machines are notably heavier and more expensive than the Harrison/Colchester alternatives.
Cheers, Mick.
seen that, but the write up dont inspire you does itYou`ll maybe wait for an L6 for quite a while, nice one just been on E bay-sadly minus its tailstock, didnt sell for just over £350. Tailstock would be why.
you may be better looking for the 5A,140,11" etc or seriously considering the Colchester range.
what length are you wanting between centres.--more than 24"

Agree a clapped out English of sufficient size would be his best bet for farm work.
Also have a 140 still as well, same as later 11" but with flat head stock. Also have a mate with the 11" and several Warco which are never used for good reason.
