Lathe drop

We have a lathe in our museum that has been 'dropped' at some point and the 2 small gears on the bottom right of this pic (of a similar Trident) have been cracked apart. The teeth and the centre are good but the spokes are knackered. I know cast iron welding is a bit of a bu66er to do, so, is it possible to machine the gears so the teeth can be set onto a new centre, much as you change the ring gear on a car flywheel?

You could always just buy new gears?

Yes you could retain the outer section and get away with drilling and tapping / pinning / riveting to a new centre but availability of replacements are not scarce, plenty of retailers out there.

Yes but its likely best to braze, tig braze or silver solder up the cracks depending how big the gap is.

Fitting a new centre where it is mechhanically held and keyed, the remaining cast will be a bit thin.

dont think u'll find gears like that commercially......forget the holes....
is just one spoke damage/cracked or more.....
1 damaged spoke u may just get away with it as there is no real load....
2 " " 's it will need a bit of help...

if the gears are concentric with no wobble go with Krams idea

Sorry cant help with the gears but that belt tension roller looks like its on the wrong side of the belt, should be dragging the belt in surely
