Lathe countershaft

Looking at making a counter shaft for
MY Drummond b type does anyone have any design diagrams or similar and a list of what I need
The lathe has been setup direct drive from the motor for the 10 plus years I’ve owned it but realistically it spins too fast for the bronze bearings

You want a matching pulley to the one on the headstock, & then the other pulley which runs off the belt motor is usually between around 8" to 12" diameter. I'll measure the one on my M type when I have chance.

For matching pulley to the headstock I’m going to use the one that’s currently on the motor so I’ll just need the corect size drive pulley a motor pulley some pillowball bearing and a bracket made up?

Can you show your current setup please. The photos you posted above do not show this.

Is it a three step pulley? The reason 'matching' is desirable is that then whichever pulley step is used between countershaft and spindle, the pulley centre distance will be constant - a simple overcentre (non-adjustable, on-or-off) tensioning mechanism is used. The motor needs to be independently adjustable to the countershaft.

I can get one but basically it’s a matched 3 step pulley to the lathe mounted directly to a motor but it runs around 1500 rpm
