Lathe Advice

Ive been watching loads over the past year but its now that I am going to go for one as its a nightmare to get anything done, also like to do things myself.

Ive used a lathe to a "very" basic level as ive had no need to, always had people to do my one off bits.

Someone who I met showed me his Vicory single phase, looked alot like the Myford ML7, over the past year ive seen a fair few of them on ebay and they have gone for £150-300 BUT nothing like that turning up at the moment. My friend has a Harrison L7, it is huge, nice bit of kit but just carnt get him to do sod all, lost interest in his tools. Ive seen a few L5 Harrisons on the bay and they were fetching £350-550 BUT still way to big for me.

With room im not 100% sure but the shed I got to rebuild where im moving this month is aprox 6 x 10 I gess so realy want to stay around 4-5 fot max and not too heavy ( fit in the estate car aswell

If you're going to the trouble of rebuilding the shed, why not add on a little extension?

Bigger is always better, especially were machine tools are concerned. Get a bigger lathe and get it shipped on a pallet for about £60.

I'd try putting some wanted ads about the forums. Someone might be prompted to sell something they haven't used in a while or considered advertising but never got round to it.

Sure the right one will turn up and im just glad of the advice.

The shed needs outer skin pulled off and a light rebuild. Would love to just build my own large shed but its not my house, going to be there for a very long time but still its not mine.
Should have the house this month, all my stuff is in storage round family and is a nightmare at the moment, driving me crazy not being able to potter round.

Don't talk to me about sheds. Just bought a skil saw for building. I thought steel made a mess.....Its nothing compared to wood. Sawdust....Its in my car as well as the neighbour's garden.

With a skill saw I feel like I'm about to loose a finger. Normally I only get that feeling betting on Horses.

I turn and drill metal all day but have never come across something as dangerous as the skill saw!

Basic wood work is easy enough just make sure you got a facemask on lol.

This is the room I will have for a small workshop, it is structuarly sound but needs the outer rebuilt, should take 2 days and a day for all the benches inside. Not much but its what I will have to work with for a long time. There is a green house at the back of the garden which I will be turning into a storage shed for the bikes.
