balanced crank full lube system...nearly a grand for that.....
wizz's around trees and can turn in its own length.......plus can tow a decent size car trailer for log collection.....
my last mower before that was a 30 + year old Stiga, horiz opp side valve engine, still worked great .....left it at the old house....couldn't take two........!!!!!!!

The first bit in particular is where the 2 wheel tractor style come into their own, really good for spinning round the trees and such, got mine for £300 although mine is only a flail mower doesnt have changeable fronts, saw one with a rough cutting flail and a 3 blade finishing mower.

Ever thought about something like this? It would cost more than 500 quid but it would be more versatile.
An old one thats needs a bit of work would cost less lots of parts avalible virtually bullet proof. You then get the advantage with turf tyers of more variety and wider range of applications as it opens up the subcompact tractor implement range. also could eventually get or make a loader and backhoe for it if you ever wanted to do something with that rough ground like build a bigger shed.

Haha, large area in total - made up of a lot of small parcels. See the pics. The open lawned area is for holiday cottages, so pickup and a decent finish is fairly important there.Ah, but you didn't define "fairly large".....
The individual areas arent large enough for anything being towed.
I was looking at the Husqvarna offerings, but there is quite a price jump to get one with a metal deck - i dont think plastics are a great idea.

Some of the Einhell ones seem a reasonable price - German made, but never really heard of them so dont know about spares: https://www.mowdirect.co.uk/einhell-gc-pm-52-shw-5-in-1-hi-wheel-petrol-lawn-mower.html at that price i am tempted until I get chance to get something more robust as folks have pointed out above, but god knows when we will be able to go out and go to machinery sales etc again!

if yours is half going buy a few bits keep it going this lightly for a couple months then buy a good 2nd hand as per all posts on here they bought new and died with in 3 years

I have a small ride on with a B&S engine going begging, needs some love, ran last year, I will get a couple of pictures tomorrow, been sitting outside this winter, a friend of ours left it with me to recommission but as she has Parkinsons and is getting quite frail I said it was not worth it, it has petrol in the oil so a carb and tap rebuild may be required, tyres go flat, it was in her garage for a good few years after her husband went into a home with dementure at 59! it is near Epping,
The engine is knocking and burning oil quite heavily. My spare engine has too much play on the crank shaft so it really needs a new engine and I don't have one. The bottom end on the cranks needs to be suitable for the mower it was made for in my experience of these engines and that is tricky although not impossible.
That could be of interest Patrick, once the COVID stuff is over. A few pics would be good if you can take them.
Thanks Ed - That size will be too small for the fields and too large for the gardens if its the same one you posted pics of on lr4x4. A tractor and a separate tracked digger are on the cards here for field work when funds allow, but neither will do the garden areas. I just need a decent large hard wearing mower for the smaller areas really hence this thread.

it's a Hayter, the narrow front track means you can get very close to trees and shrubs, ran last year, I have the bits not currently attached, except a battery, it is electric start, don't have the rest of the grass collector but it may be in the friends garage, will ask, needs love but might do some of what you need, I did have the tyres blown up but I suspect there is some corrosion that needs cleaning off the wheels,
. Any pictures ??Well, problem temporarily solved. The old owners of our house left a knackered mower with a honda gcv160 engine on it. I assumed it was useless - the mower body etc was scrap and the fuel cap was missing off of the engine. It got left at the back of one of the sheds.
Anyway - nothing to lose, i dragged it out and put some fuel in it. Nothing. Put some brake cleaner in the carb inlet and it fired. I pulled the carb, it was a mess but cleaned it up and got the engine going.
