In the real world lay flat as 3 states,
Empty- Flat and easy to move.
Pressurised- solid and rigid doesn't want to bend or move. Often wiping out whatever gets in its way. (Possibly your plants)
Semi Pressurised- In Between, soft so kinks and stops flow then one section flows till it kinks in another location.

I tried the big nozzle earlier, just attached it straight to the outlet of the pump...
I'm very impressed, it goes from a 3m wide spray to a jet that would wash a small dog away.

Why not just buy some blue mdpe pipe? Yea, it's not so easy to tug around the place but it's very cheap. 60(ish)pence per meter for 100m of 25mm.
Had a roll for watering the garden with pond water in the dry spell.
Actually, with that in mind, I think your 1" bore is overkill. My gut feeling is that to be making use of that diameter pipe, the water butt will be drained in a very short space of time so you'll end up restricting the end...in which case, you'll get away with a smaller hose. Maybe just double check or do a test or two.

We put this on hold given the price of the hose (Not actually that much compared to a 12.5 mm Hoselock reel but a lot for second one that isn't really needed) but I found a length in a skip, with a camlock on one end.
Hose barbs are on the way and I'll measure flow rates and pressure drops (Because I'm a nerd
) but I couldn't resist a quick play.

Well I'm glad I didn't buy a length of hose, it'll take longer to get it out and put it away again than it would to empty the butts! We'll stick with 12.5 mm hose but I might make an adaptor to use that rose, she was very impressed with it.
