Large external chamfer tool.

Does anyone know of a YouTube video on how to make one or just showing a home made one might help.?

I'm playing with some ideas.

Have the 60 degree angle cut. To save lots of clearance grinding (which would be by hand and rubbish), and knowing that silver steel edge wont last, Im going to instead build up the cutting edge with a line of HSS tig filler and then cut that back, so there will be minimal grinding, before grinding the cutting edge.

Other option would be cut a big slot and fit a hss or carbide blade, which may be easier to grind and more adjustable.

I'll can chuck one in the post, end of week, if its any good.

The Marwa one looks way over complicated having a split collet type holder, I can see why its so expensive but seems unnessasary to me.

I've got the large laser one - deburrer for a drill - it works fine on inch bar. Chatters if you don't have a stiff setup though.

That would be awesome mate. I was hoping for some time to experiment but this virus is getting to me now.

I have the Amazon special. I am convinced if I stuck my finger in it , it would not cut it.

It's interesting as the 20mm threaded rod cuts different to the samples they sent when we quoted a price after cutting 10 slugs my brand new coldsaw blade was blunt. ( I now know it cuts mild steel ok)
I got my resharpened blade back and it cut 4 metres into 75mm slugs and it's not happy now.


So.....it's possible the BZP thread material is unusually hard. (From a different supplier)

I am trying to find out if I can get anywhere to supply small quantities of cut and deburred slugs. They supply all the parts for me to assemble. (I drill 4 X 4.5mm holes in 3 different parts 22mm steel.
The slugs screw into pre drilled and tapped holes. So it's making the job a lot longer than it should be

If I can get them to supply the slugs cut and deburred it will make my life easier . As long as it's not extortionately expensive I am sure they can change to cut all thread. But I can imagine that cut slugs are going to be way more expensive than 1 metres lengths of 20mm BZP 8.8

How many have you got to do? Lathe or even just a file would be my go-to unless there's hundreds of them.

130 75mm slugs or 20mm each batch of 65 ordered.

Currently I found it quicker to use the lathe than offhand grinding.
But I just found out my son used a linisher on the prototypes rather than a wheel grinder. So I am going to pull mine out and order up some corse grit belts

And try cutting on my bandsaw see how that cuts
