Large box for outside electrics-what shall i use?

I am wanting to make or buy a largish (metal/nilolite) box for putting outside electrics in-(sockets cctv cables & lighting cables in. Not sure what to use. I am have been looking around on ebay. If I make one, I shall use some nilolite, as I have that material in stock and it is very strong & weather resistant.

Does anyone have any ideas?-I’m trying to save time and get the job moving and making a box will take me more time than I want it to.

Discontinued now, it has a couple of small storage scratches on it but nothing major, I bought it for the crazy RS price for a project but no longer need it £25+postage

I used to buy quite a few IP65 enclosures when I was building machinery, Rittal are probably the best, Give City Electrical in Rotherham a call they are rittal agents, but lean on something sturdy before you get the price, I suspect you'll end up making one.

17 yrs ago I used a BT type roadside communications cabinet about 1.5 mtr wide by 400 mm deep by 1 mtr high for my distribution box ..put supply & distribution service in underground ducts to enter the box from below , set it on a cast concrete base.

It was made of thick fibre glass , the front opened in two doors.

I got it from Newy and Ayers ( I think )

just to add dont use the box for cctv & mains you may end with a problem

As long as there is an earthed metal seperator there souldnt be any problems with interferance

Greek & Madkayaker-can you tell me more please about possible issues using the same box? I would prefer to "prevent" than have to cure a problem after installation.

What is an earthed metal separator?

to seperate band 1 and 2 you need 100mm gap or a earthed screen between the two. So if you kept all the mains stuff in metal conduit/ trunking and metal equipment and ensure its all earthed then there is no problems as the concentric magnetic field can't escape from the enclosure or induce a electric charge on the enclosure

I take it that band 1& 2 mean the 240v supply to the box and the wires from the cctv?

I take it that if I ensure that there is a gap of at least 100mm between the electric cables and the cctv cables that there will be no problem?

The cable in the box is not in trunking or conduit. The cable entering the box is armour and then fed into a conventional junction box. From the junction box is TW&E going out to sockets (that are in the box) . Everything is earthed.

Do you see any problem with this?

I take it that the term “earthed screen” that you mentioned simply refers to the metal of the conduit for example?

Have I overlooked anything, and do you feel that anything I have described needs to be changed in any way? Cheers.

sounds fine to me i you have to cross any cable do it 90 degrees to each other

band 1 and 2 refers to the different voltage bands of mains and CCTV earthed screen can e earthed metal enclosures or screen within cable
