What do you think of this grinder??

I don't really like the twist handle. Or am I just too old fashioned

Not sure what 39.99 is in proper money, i assume thats Euros?

It may be a twist handle, but you dont ever have to twist it if you dont want too....

I always avoid cheap grinders, unbeleivable amounts of vibration.

If you need one, buy a decent one.

I got a Metabo angle grinder, small model (5" disc 750-900-ish watt). Expensive (100 euro) but works great really low vibration level.
We had a cheap Ferm angle grinder before and the difference is night and day, but the Ferm had been used for a few years so it wasn't a fair comparison (new expensive vs old cheap).

Hi I have one of the same grinder my one was £19.99 from Aldi (I think not much more) I have used it lots, its very good for the home DIY and the workman that was working on my house used it when there one stoped and could not do the job. It's got a 3 year guarantee on it not bad I think

I dont know about the grinder offer. But the Twist Handle, is actually a very handy thing.

Dutchman, that Aldi one looks fine, the swivel handle is actually a good feature, I don't know why you're not keen on it. My 9 incher is a wickes diy one and it's served me very well for several years, the cable could do with being replaced due to me dropping bits of plate on it after finishing cuts but apart from that it's great. The 9" ones tend to get less use than 4 1/2" ones and are generally stronger so last longer. I've lost count of how many small grinders I've got through . I must be on about number 9 or 10 now, and i'm only a diyer. They've only been cheap ones up until now though, I've got a hitachi one now so I'll see what happens with it.

Euro is proper money, its the widest used currency in the world, did you not know your sterling is a minority currency these days

Not sure on the twist handle on that grinder myself, although I suppose it could have its uses

Minority yes..........but while we can get 2 dollars for 1 pound and over 1 and a third for the Euro, i'll think we'll keep it for the time being........

True, but that means very little, you're fooling yourself with exchange rates, € 1 £ 1 $ 1 are not the same currency, in real terms if you come over here with your £1 and convert it to €1.33 you will get no more for your money than you would back home with your £1, the only difference is that you would have a more stable and widely accepted currency in your pocket that you can use in just about any european country, even in the uk you will find, try spending stg in France, Germany and so on...............

erm if you read the 2 thread you will see that it says 39.99 euros, for said angle grinder which is if you divide by 1.33 euros you get £30 (there abouts )am i correct then scroll further down and you will see the same grinder purchased for £19.99 so surely if you buying it in sterling your saving a tenner so how can there be no difference in the £ euro and $? oh yea you will find most things in america say $100 for a grinder now with our near enuf £1-$2 exchange rate means we would get it for £50

but then again i could be talking absolute rubbish but i wreckon alot of brits like myself like the idea of keeping the pound as thats are dividing line between us and the new super s**t state thats is being formed.

Proper money....
I find it a pity that you guys aren’t in on the Euro. Would have been nice I guess to have a widely used currency. With the dollar sliding and the upcoming power of Asia, the next proper currency could well be the Chinese Yuan.
For the grinder; I think I’ll take it since I don’t expect to use it that often. Save some cash there and buy me a nice Metabo midsize grinder next time.
The thing I don’t like about the handle is that it is an extra feature and features have the tendency to break.

Nope, you are wrong, you buying it in the UK may save you £10, but if you go to Holland and pay the Euro price on your sterling credit card you wont save anything at all. Prices will vary country to country, taxation rates are very different remember, for example, I pay 21% VAT as the standard VAT rate, yours is what, 17.5%?

An example the other way would be how I can nip down to my local petrol station and fill up at €1.09 per litre or about Stg £0.81, correct me if I am wrong, but its more expensive in the UK? Does that mean I am getting better value here for my money, well yes, but only because I am being taxed less on the fuel.

If I convert the Euro in my pocket back to Irish punt at the rate they were locked (IR £0.787564 = €1.00) and compare that to todays UK to Euro rate ( UK £0.74727 = €1.00) you will notice that the Punt and Euro are nearly on parity, exactly how it was when the rates were locked, so Stg is worth no more or less really then ever and either is Euro

The Euro's a great idea but doesn't work in practice. One size doesn't fit all in Europe...it's not like 52 states within Amercia... Europe has many different cultures & economies running at different paces. So, a strong German economy would benefit from higher interest rates to keep inflation in check, whereas a weak Greek economy needs low interest rates to stimulate their economy. If it's such a great system why didn't Britain join (Europe's financial power-house) & why do the Italians, Greeks & Spanish (amongst others) want out?!

Its easy to say join the Euro, when your talking about countries with fairly insignificant currencys, such as Irish Punt, Dutch Guilder etc. There's a whole lot more to consider when its a major international economy like the Gbp, you have a currency, which admittedly is only spent in one country, but is respected and is one of the strongest currencies the whole world over.

In my experience, the average cost of living has gone up in countries that have adopted the euro and unfortunatley wages havn't gone up by as much. You only have to look at how expensive drinks and food are now in places like Greece and Spain, when you go on holiday.

Everytime I've been to Greece in recent years the taxi drivers (from airport to resort) have a right old rant about the Euro! "Britain was right to stay out", "Everythings now too expensive" etc.etc.
Ireland has done very nicely since joining, having s**t loads of EU grants thrown at it for development, perhaps that's why they are so keen
