Laptop spill

I'm not anti them just they could be a bit more relaxed on a few things

If I've bought 365 etc for my latop I should beable to transfer it to my new laptop if I'm not using it on my old one a hand shake should let me do that not buy another copy


Let's face it would we all do ours jobs for a cheaper price if we can get what we are getting now I would not so they charge what they can get away with that business

I have recently transferred my office suite to a new machine, logged in and it all worked

Was in fact rather more seamless than expected.

Right random update

Was all apart earlier and I mean every thing apart from the screen from the base all back together now and even I'm surprised at the fact that not even 1 screw left over

And !!!!!!!!!!!

After a long black screen and a head fit saying the cmos been reset its

Turning back on I've not tryed all the keys yet but the mouse seams to be working


Will have to rip apart a bit quick as will have to Reseat the hestsink paste as had to remove the heat pipes and heatsink to get the board out (stupid as there was only one screw you can't get to with out taking them all off)

But at least I can save back up any stuff I might have lost now its turning on just going to have to see how long it lasts now as I know with luqid spills there can be damage faster on but hoping as I cleaned out with isopropyl that could with luck have washed out thr spill just have to wait that one out

I forget what model it was by when my daughter drowned her keyboard a few years ago the whole keyboard was a moulded rubber sheet, under the keys, so no liquid actually got inside the guts of the machine. Quite a good idea actually.

She did have a couple of keys fail on a laptop when we lived in the Phils. We went to a computer repair shop who said they can’t locate a new keyboard, but they have a used one they would install for her.

No problem, we collected it a few days later, got it home….
…..and found that one also had some failed keys…..

Back to the shop, the guy admitted he knew it was faulty. There are no words, we just got our money back. Those are the sort of ‘challenges’ you have to deal with living in the third world, a different mind set, a strange mental outlook at life.

Don't know I've I've ever signed in just downloaded the firefor and transfered over the favs

Will have a look at that

you can still get your favs from firefox but it does take some digging to get them

not from my reading on windows 11 now its even tighter restrictions on upgrading

Windows 11 gives more old CPUs the cold shoulder

Even tighter requirements, so it's time to put old hardware out to pasture... or find an alternative OS

I don't know is the answer to that. However, I gather that BillyGoat Co. has recently loosened the parameters for 11 to load, so worth a try.



If you have a Firefox account, all of your bookmarks are synced to any other device anyway. Just log into the same account and they will appear, right up to the last operation.

A friend of mine inherited a place in Jamaica which needed a lot of work, he told us the tradesmen out there are abysmal, start late, finish early and their standard of work was poor, an example was getting the bathroom tiled, they didn't put any tiles behind the door because "you can't see it when the door's open"

Sounds very familiar.
We had an excellent team of guys who built our house, but they were hand picked by the American guy who ran the building company. And they were far, far different to the normal main stream ‘skilled’ local guys.

That was a witch's warning to make and keep a regular backup, just like I do.

I appreciate those who are anti Microsoft etc but honestly, libre office/open office is NOT a substitute for MS office if you do anything beyond typing up a "Dear Sir" letter to the Telegraph

If you want "free" office software, the Google offering is far superior to Libre, but if you are concerned about who sees your docs then you may need an extra layer of tinfoil before firing it up

YMMV of course

I get on well with "open office" - I have OCD about spreadsheets at workshop for everything.

Been very pleased with open office for nothing.

I still prefer !Publisher on RISC OS though. Everything is just so logical, having been written by real people, rather than automatons who don't live in the real world. So many PC programs are unnecessarily complicated and unintuitive. As for error messages...
