I don't think it's running anythingThe spec suggests it should be sufficient to run just about anything. It's worth finding out what is running in the background wasting cpu cycles; thigs such as major updates spring to mind, and malware, services not needed for normal running, antivirus software doing a full scan.

And the only antivirus is the Norton that it came installed with
How do you remove it as it came pre installed for 30 daysGet rid of Norton and add as much ram as it can handle.

There is only 50g of the 2tb hard drive used And 7.8gb of 8 go ram availableQuite likely to be a memory issue as others have said...when programs run out of active memory on the machine they can switch to writing temporary files to disk instead....and that can be really sssslllloooooowwww.
As suggested...ctl/ald/del when running the software and check the memory used....most laptops can take a memory upgrade and its very easy to do....literally 1 screw in the back usually! But have to check the board and windows to make sure if can make use of what you put in.

Just what it says in the settingsThe available ram sounds a bit suspiciously high to me (how much does windows use?)....but 8gb total should be plenty for most applications I would have thought.
