Lantra, Citb, or someone else?

Looking into doing a telehandler and forklift course for the temp Job as they are paying. They are letting me pick the training provider. Was wanting a ticket that cover me for use on building sites and farms. Dose anyone know which board is the more universally accepted. Dont particularly want to have to do two different operators tickets.

The construction one will be via CPCS (construction plant certification scheme). I believe it is A17.

Under CSCS/CPCS, there is very limited crossover of qualifications particularly and especially at site level. This is somewhat due to the ignorance and apathy of principal contractors and high-level corporate decision-making: "you have to have a CPCS card for X or you cannot work on my site. I do not know or care about alternative training schemes that are equally good or even better".

Do you have a CSCS card already? If not, you will have to do the standard H&S test in addition to the telehandler training.

I do not know what sort of checks or by whom they are done on farms.

So if you are seeking some kind of cross-recognition, you might end up dealing with the two awarding bodies yourself: ring both of them and find out if one will recognise the other's card and how to become bi-lingual once the course is complete.

Edit: reading the CITB page more closely, they give you a red CSCS card, which they then say has to be upgraded within two years via an NVQ level 2 into a blue card. So you would need to be working in that environment enough in the two years to be able to do that or you may lose the entitlement.

CPCS Telescopic Handler A17 (5 days) - CITB

This course is for people with limited or no experience who want to learn to operate a telescopic handler. On passing the technical tests, we will apply for the CPCS trained operator card (red card) on your behalf.

Interestingly, the LANTRA one distinguishes between stabilised, non-stabilised and articulated.

Maybe ring these people: they train for all the awarding bodies and would know if there can be a cross over. They are also in your part of the world.

Cheers Agroshield, I do have a temporary red 6 month CSCS Card, I do have to phone them to find out what one I need permanently as technically with my qualifications level I should have done the management, not the operatives test as but that's by the by.

Cheers will give those guys a phone and see what they suggest.

Basically cscs are a law unto themselves... last time I enquired I was told my city and guilds trade certs were invalid.... and as I already had a managers card I couldn't have one anyway......
