soil.flower bed with a bird bath in the mid.
at the bottom of the garden there will be a 9ft x 5ft shed.
between the mid and window will be a small lean to green house as well as other garden stuffs. as for the boarders we wont see much of it by the time our lass put plant pots there. all I'm bothered about is the fencing and the middle bit.

i cant realy see the thinkness of the slabs sticking up in the air but they dont seam that thick to me but if thats going to hold back even the small amount of soil does not seam much to me but more important would be and they will get a knock now and again there needs to be alot more cement behind the up rights to stop them cracking if hit with a boot any thing moved round the yard

Yup. Calibrated stone or not.
Did they slurry or seal the backs first.
Personally I would have bricked or blocked the upstand and clad in sandstone if face bricks weren't used. Run the 300x600 around the top as a coping.
There's a lot of people slinging down stone these days with a little knowledge.

Im too tight to have paid for cement and cut stone. Id have gone for a rough stone dwarf wall, for the raised bed, then 20mm gravel over a membrane. 20 ton of gravel is a few hundred quid. And goes a long way hiding rough gardens.
Barrow it in but load the barrow with a digger. 20 ton only takes two about an hour!

Personally I have always found it difficult to value work, luckily I can do most stuff myself so tend to think most prices are high when in reality they are the going rate.
Basically I think it comes down to if you are happy then that's all that matters, it's going to look good once there's a bit of floral colour and even better...no lawn mower required...wish I could say the same

those centre slabs are about an inch thick.
they had took 2 or 3 pick up load of garden rubbish.
there was a concrete bit 3 or 4 yards wide and the same the other way to.
they had to use them hammer chisel thing like the ones they use on road works.
took them all day and a bit to clear it all so there was a lot of rubble.
the reason why I got this done is that I'm not getting any younger or our lass.
I've no interest in gardens well not to work on one.lol
my wife has arthritis in both her wrist and hands but they are under control(tablets).
she doesn't have much bother with them unless she does to much.
just 2 things I want sorting other wise it will look nice once all the gardening stuffs is in.
that is bricks around the mid and extra batten on the back of the fence 2 is not enough.
once the wood dries out it quit possible they will misshape in the middle..nothing is keeping it in line.
once its all done in a couple months time I'll post a picture with plants etc.

Won't work without a deposit for materials.
People get done both sides of the fence. ; )
At least I'm only down labour rather than a few grand of materials.

If I was getting work done I would never pay up front.
I am happy to do staged payments, materials dropped off..pay some money, foundations dug out and laid...pay some money etc etc.
That way the supplier and myself should not lose out big time if it all goes wrong.

^^^^^ as above some people will not start work untill a depost paid i do 99 percent of work myself so would as above paid an amount once the stuff on the grass
yesterday got home otherhalf said we had a bloke round said force fully that you said he was to clean the gutters and facisas as he done last year
my otherhalf said to him no he did not as he does them him self and had only cleaned them 2 weeks ago so why would he ask for them to be done again said not to bother coming again lucky she had the kids there and she was also holding our dog back by the collar as was barking at the person at the door prob helped the dog is as stupid as a brush and would not hurt a fly but the way she barks and growels she dont look frendly
my other half phoned a few of the neighbers to worn them but as she was talking to the next door he had already been there and had said he had cleaned the gutters and wanted paying she had shut the door in his face so my otherhalf had phoned the police they already where on there way and should be there soon but we never found out if he got caught

have any you guys used sika infill.
you just brush the stuff into the joints.
they come in a yellow box and sealed in a tin foil bag and it has to be brush in within an hour.
sound good stuff according to label but I never heard of the stuff.
its expensive so I'm told £45 for a bag.
as for payments I dont mind paying in stages but not upfront of the total amount.
1 of the landsscape gardeners required full amount before they will start needless to say told them no.

Pay the deposit by credit card. You then get the Section 75 protection on the whole amount if between £100 and £30K regardless of how you pay the balance.

Browsing this thread and the same thing hits me again.
Got to be honest and say I don't like the construction of the wall for the flower bed, I would have built an inner wall from common brick or blocks to support the narrow slabs as toppers with a nice mitre cut at each corner
This would have given a very solid visual appearance, matched in better with the rest of the work and been a lot stronger to support any pressure from the infill.
It may even prevent muddy seepage coming through the gaps and soiling the flags, could also be sat on whilst weeding the soil etc.
Sort of like this:
