Landrover swb series 3

hi everyone, new to paint but want to respray my project series 3 swb, couple of quick questions am I right in thinking I have to use an etch primer? Also want to use Matt black cellulose paint, roughly how much paint and primer am I going to need?

I am not a painter so cant advise further but etch primer was specified in the original workshop manual for this vehicle it being ali panels in the main part.

Cheers bud, thats what my manual says but wasn't sure wether or not primers had come along in that time and you could use other ones if you know what I mean

its because of the ali, I have had lets say "quite a few" painted in the past Like I say though I am no painter but everyone who did them used such paints

Seems a bit posh to go to all the effort of priming and spraying.... I used interior house paint, a brush and a roller on mine I'll put some pics up later to make you all jealous like.

When I bought my series 2 it not only had white emulsion peeling off the inside but also a light bulb holder normally found in your house for an interior light and a light switch on the end of some wires bouncing round in the cab to operate the starter motor

That's held up pretty well over time then, a friend painted his 90 in black metal gloss from b&q as a temp fix 3 years ago, didn't strip any paint or use a primer and its held up well

Don't get me started on the electrics still trying to figure out what drugs the last guy was on when he started the wiring

Yeah it's heading down that route tbh, got about 80% working atm but gonna put a hold on the wiring for the moment until a source a replacement engine
